In the hustle of everyday life, it’s easy to lose touch with ourselves. We follow the rhythm of demands, respond to the world in a rush, and little by little, we stop listening to what the body whispers — until it has no choice but to shout.
Reconnecting with the body isn’t just a self-care practice. It’s a deep form of presence. When we stretch upon waking, when we feel our feet on the ground, when we breathe deeply or choose to drink a glass of water mindfully, we’re telling ourselves: “I am here.” And that changes everything.
Yoga has taught me that movement doesn’t need to be intense to be transformative. The silence that emerges between one posture and the next is just as powerful as the movement itself. There is listening in silence — space to notice how we are, without judgement.
Recently, I had a unique experience during a yoga class with Vivian Barreira in São Paulo. It was more than a physical practice — it was the most complete one I’ve ever had. There was a theme, intention, presence. Every posture and every breath had a purpose, creating a bridge between what we feel and who we are. I walked out of that class with a deep sense of having returned home. And more than that, with the reminder that the body is a safe place when we listen to it with love.
I’ve noticed that the more connected I am to my body, the more present I am in conversations, in decisions, in moments — including with myself. The body has its own timing — wiser, kinder. And when we respect that, it gently guides us back home.
There’s no true presence without a present body. And taking care of the body is also taking care of the quality of our presence in the world.
